Hi Richard I noticed that when I'm rendering final image with DOF PRO my computer is using only 25% ot all CPU power.

I'd say that it's because you seem to have a dual cpu setup with each cpu supporting two threads, am I correct?

If that's the case, then DOF Pro only supports single-threaded operations, meaning it only uses one thread of one cpu.

Only speculations from my side though.

Yeah, If you have a dual CPU system, DOF PRO isn't multithreaded yet so it won't make use of your second CPU. Been looking into it, though as I have a dual CPU system myself as well, also HT.

I did some quick tests on my single CPU P4 3.2 GHZ HT machine.

Basically, DOF PRO uses 50% of the CPU per thread during operation - so the first thread uses 50% and the second also uses 50%. This is consistent with what I read about Photoshop a few years back which is that SOME of it's plugins, particularly the more intensive ones, are hyperthreaded while others are not. You can test this yourself by opening a large image in Photoshop and applying a gaussian blur to it - you will see the CPU usage rise to 100% per thread. Now try applying any effect from the "Sketch" filter group. All of them will only use the same amount as DOF PRO - 50% per thread.

I'm using PS 7.0 and perhaps this has changed in CS.

Regardless, I'm not sure why your machine is only using 25% of the CPU unless it's because you have 4 threads going but DOF PRO should use at least 50% like the other PS filters. And I'm looking into seeing if there's any way to make it fully hyperthreaded.

If anyone can do some tests as well and post their results, that would be helpful.

I turned off the HT future and now the DOF Generator works at 50% of CPU power, I'm using Photoshop CS so there are no changes since Photoshop 7. Take a look at this printscreen picture.

Do you intend to compile a version of DOF Generator for After Effects too?

there seems to be considerable demand for an After Effects version of DOF PRO. We have looked into this; unfortunately the API is entirely different as compared to Photoshop and the Plugin Framework that we currently use. Hence a port of DOF PRO to After Effects would in fact mean a completely new project. Currently we try to focus our resources on improving and enhancing DOF PRO as a Photoshop plugin.
