I'm trying to do a basic test in DOF Pro 3 and the results aren't coming out as expected.

I'm using a TGA sequence with matching TGA Z-Buffer frames. I check the first and last frames (using the "View Frame" button) and they look fine. The last frame has the blur & bokeh that I want and the first frame is in focus. The params aren't keyframed. I render this and it all comes out in focus. I go back and check to be sure the depth map is loading along in sequence with the proper frame and it is. I pick some random middle frames and preview (again, "View Frame") and it looks fine.

Just to be sure, I go ahead and set first and last keyframes although the params aren't animated - just constant throughout.

Same thing - the last frame is in focus when it should be really blurry w/ bokeh. It looks fine in the preview window but not while batch rendering or in the final output.

Any ideas?

Hi Frank;

When you say the "The last frame has the blur & bokeh that I want and the first frame is in focus." but you are not keyframing, then I assume you are changing the focus by using animated depth maps. Is this correct?

It might help if you posted perhaps the settings.ini file, and any images which might be relevant so that I could try to reproduce the problem. I know these can be large files, but anything that I can work with might help me find the problem...although I still don't fully understand it from the description. Is this possible?

-Richard

*EDIT: Frank, can you reproduce this error with smaller maps perhaps that I can download with your settings.ini file or perhaps with maps from the dofpro.com site such as the domino sequence or chess images?

Hi Richard!

What I mean by the first frame being in focus and the last being blurry is that I'm just using the depth map frames as-is. No animated params in this case. As the object's distance from camera changes, the correseponding depth map changes (goes from white to black) so the blur should increase as the sequence goes along, due to the change in depth map sequence. The previews of this look exactly as expected but the final animation does not have the blur as shown in preview window (1:1 w/ 100% - panned to look at the object)

I'll try to zip the sequence and INI and get them to you.

Thanks!

Just wanted to drop a public note saying a big "THANK YOU!" to the DOF PRO crew.

Talk about prompt! I sent my sequence to Richard for testing and got a fix the next day - along with some very helpful tips!

Thanks a lot! You guys are top-notch!
