 Alpha BMP's

Would it be possible to be able to handle BMP's with alpha channel?

I was able to load BMP's that had the alpha channel embedded into the plugin, but the BMPs that were outbputted had lost the alpha channel. Obviously this would require the blurring of the alpha channel so that the blur would composite nicely over a new background layer.

Would this be possible in a future release? Or does DOFpro need to know the background image information before being able to to render the blur?

Hi re:Form;

BMP's supporting alpha channels are quite rare - most apps don't give you the option of embedding an alpha in the BMP file format although I have seen one or two.

To answer your question, you won't be limited to BMP's in v3.0 but you still won't have alpha channel support (although this is on our list). DOF'ing the alpha channel is tricky as it requires a different amount of DOF in contrast to the RGB image and of course, we then have to deal with pre-multiplied alphas as well.

Although DOF PRO is meant to be used on the final composited layers, I agree with you that alpha channel support would be nice so we'll definitely try to incorporate it in there sooner rather than later.
